We are officially out of the country of Haiti, which to me, is unfortunate. Before we left though, we made two significant stops. One to Branly's cousin, who wanted to show us his home and community. He makes alcohol with sugar cane and got to see his process. He also took us over to a community, which is brand new since the community grew after the 2010 earthquake. The land and the houses were well kept and seeing kids run around was an uplifting experience for all of us.
Our next stop was even more mind boggling; a man named Andy English, from Florida. He has been in Haiti for years and his most recent entrepreneurial endeavor is Haitian agriculture. This guy has, literally from the ground, pulled together a farm producing a variety if native crops while employing Haitians and providing them training to start their own operations. Everything from candles and honey to peppers, papaya and a future in milking dairy goats. How long has he been doing this, you ask? Since last February. Mind. Blown.
Both of these stops showed us one thing for sure. Hope. Hope for Haiti. I know we have seen it over the course of the trip, but as the end of our adventure, it was perfect. Perfect inspiration as we return to classes on Monday.
